Computer Basics 101

 
Course Summary:  This is a 2 session introductory course to computers and the Internet.  This class requires no pre-existing knowledge of computers and the Internet.   Classes will be held at the Computer Overhauls office.  Classes will be free of charge.  Refreshments will be provided during a 15 minute Q and A session at the end of the class!!!

Course Goal:  To provide a fundamental understanding of computers and the Internet that will allow students to utilize their computer and the Internet as a tool in their daily lives.

Part One Topics

A general history of computing and the Internet.

Fundamentals of computer use – the difference between “software” and “hardware” and how they interact.
●
The basics of word processing, the Windows Operating system, and networking and Internet.
●
How to fix common software and hardware problems.

Part Two Topics
●
Good practices for keeping computers virus and spyware free.
●
How to upgrade and maintain a PC for optimal performance
●
How to utilize the Internet as a research and time saving tool
●
The basics of home networking, external storage and the multimedia age.
Computer Classes - "The Basics"

At the end of class students will have an understanding of how computers work, the ability to perform common tasks like word processing and hooking up an Internet connection, a basic knowledge of how to troubleshoot and fix common problems, and most importantly -- a foundation from which to improve their lives through the use of computers and Internet.
