		Is my recovered data secure? You data is stored in our professionally managed recovery lab that has multiple levels of physical security. Your data’s security is assured thanks to the proprietary communication protocol, encrypted packets and secure facilities offered as part of the Computer Overhauls recovery services. The recovery lab is made secure with a 128 bit encryption. We treat all user data in the utmost confidence in line with strict United States data protection guidelines.

		What is the price of the recovery based on? The main factors that determine the cost of the recovery are how damaged the disk is and detailed of a reconstruction will be required in order to get the drive back to a point where the data can be read properly. Once the drive has been rebuilt successfully extracting the data out is generally the easiest part. Regardless of its one file or a million files the work that goes into getting the drive operational is the same. As such, the amount of data generally doesn't affect the price.

		If I decline the recovery, is there a fee? No. Should you decline to proceed with the recovery there is no charge for the evaluation.

Level one recovery is when your hard drive is working normally but there is other damage to the computer which is preventing you from accessing the data. For example, you spilled liquid on the computer and it no longer turns on. If the drive wasn't damaged by the liquid then this would qualify as a level one recovery.

Data Recovery

Level one recoveries are generally completed within 2 business days. It will often require complete disassembly of your machine in order to gain access to the drive. Once the drive has been remove it will be tested to confirm a level one recovery is possible. If so, we can transfer all the data to either an external hard drive or another computer. The more data you have on the drive the longer the transfer will take.

Level Two Data Recovery

Level two recovery is where about 80% of our clients fall. This is when the drive has started to fail but has not yet suffered a catastrophic failure. If the computer powers on does not boot, hangs, flashes a folder icon etc then you may qualify for a level two recovery. However, not all drives with these symptoms will be recoverable with this technique.

Level Two Recovery

We can usually extract the data out of the failing drives using specialized level two recovery tools. Failing drives can are very delicate and must be handled properly. A level two recovery will attempt to recover as much data as possible before the drive suffers a complete failure. Upon completion you will be able to review the recovered data and confirm that it has been recovered to your complete satisfaction. If not, there is no charge for the attempt.

Level Three Data Recovery

About 15% of our customers have no other option aside from a level three recovery. These are the last resort when dealing with severely damaged drives. It can also be used as a safer alternative to level two methods. At this level the drive is sent in to our clean room laboratory for extensive reconstruction work. The parts inside a hard drive are incredibly delicate and can easily be destroyed with one wrong move. These recoveries are basically the equivalent of open heart surgery and likewise are just as complex. The average turnaround time for this type of recovery is 10-16 business days.

Level Three Data Recovery

The drive must be disassembled to make repairs before files can be restored. The disassembly and repair must be done in a special environment to prevent damage to the data. This cannot be safely done in a standard work room, but instead must be done in a class 100 cleanroom. Exact matching donor drives will be used in an effort to restore the drive to point where the data can once again be read properly. At that point, the file system reconstruction can begin. Depending on the extent of damage we can often recovery all or most of the data.

Computer Overhauls uses a Class 100 cleanroom for hard drive recovery.
A Class 100 rating means that the company has followed federal standards for air quality control.

What Can Be Recovered?

When a drive is failing the main goal is to recover your user data. This includes your documents, music, photos, e-mails, address book, spreadsheets, presentations, movies etc. Programs and applications are generally recommend to be re-installed from the original disc after the recovery is complete. Many applications have copyright protection built in which may prevent them from working after are recovery. As such, we do not guarantee that third party programs such as Photoshop, Quickbooks or Microsoft Office will be transferred.

The hard drive will need to be replaced on your computer and the operating system will be re-installed. The core operating system is what is loaded on the computer when you first purchased it. Programs such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Adobe Reader, Notepad, MS Security Essentials etc will be on your computer after the recovery is complete. Basically, any program that you installed after you purchased the computer may need to be re-installed. The data from the programs such as a Quickbooks database, Photoshop files will be recovered but the program will need to be re-installed in order to open these files.
